“You’ve come a long way, girl…”
Although we couldn’t see the person talking, shrouded by darkness in a remote corner of the room, there was no doubt who that voice belonged to. Unmistakably and without a doubt, it was the number one contender to the XIX World championship talking, mere minutes away from the biggest match of her young career, the main event of “Famous Last Words”, XIX’s One Year Anniversary show.
Hearing her talking before a match wasn’t unusual: the odd part was who she was talking to: Trinity Thompson.
Sitting with her legs crossed on the floor in the illuminated part of the room was the Nap Town girl herself, already dressed in her usual ring gear. Her eyes rose from the floor to look where the person talking was apparently standing.
“It’s been one hell of a trip from Annapolis to Rosemont, going through the Academy, through MWE… Sometimes I look back and wonder what I could’ve done differently. I admit some situations could’ve been handled better, but you know what they say… Hindsight vision is always 20/20.”
“Hmm… Would you be here, if you had chosen another path?” The Trinity In The Dark replied. “Every turn you took, every decision you made, forged you, Trinity. They turned that clumsy little girl from Nap Town into the brave young woman you are today. A woman who didn’t hesitate to stand up against Nine and her cult…”
“And they took me. Kept me locked away from my family and friends for weeks. They tried to break me and… They almost succeeded.” Her eyes lowered as she brought up the painful memory.
“But they didn’t. You escaped from the compound, you’re still here.”
“I had help.” Trinity interrupted the voice. “If it wasn’t for him, I would still be there. Or worse, I would be one of them.”
“Maybe, we will never know. The point is, they couldn’t break you. You came back and you fought to regain your spot, and your sister’s too.”
A light chuckle escaped her lips. “Yeah that was pretty cool. Except for the part when TD hung me, that was some scary shit.”
“And it didn’t stop you from earning a shot at MUD, a shot at the XIX World Championship. Can you see what I’m trying to say here, Trinity?”
Thompson stood up, nodding at the darkness in front of her.
“I.. I think I do.”
“You’re no longer the little girl the other kids mocked at school. Growing up without your mother and father, losing your beloved grandma who raised you…” Trinity brought her hand to her eyes, wiping off a tear.
The voice kept talking, now seemingly closer, louder in volume. “Joining the Academy, dealing with Faith, Olly, Faizah… Meeting your sister, finding yourself while helping her find herself… Facing Nine, dealing with what you have dealt there, making that last stand against Marshall, sacrificing your career in MWE for Tiff….”
Trinity turned around, now facing the camera. She was keeping her head low, the facts about her life brought up by the Trinity In The Dark overwhelming her. The sound of footsteps filled the silence that suddenly fell into the room. From the darkness, Trinity Thompson emerged, donning a look inspired by the League Of Legends character Kai’Sa, the Daughter Of The Void. White pants with black and purple vertical bands running down the legs, a black top complete with colored studs and purple arm sleeves. Black combat boots at her feet, her long hair, dyed in a dark shade of blue, dressed in a high ponytail. In the videogame, the Kai’Sa character was claimed by the Void when she was only a child, but against all odds, she managed to survive thanks to her tenacity and strength of will. And that was likely the reason why Trin picked this outfit.
“It made you stronger.” Kai’Sa Trinity said, resting her arm on Regular Trinity’s shoulder. It was only then that the mystery was solved. The version of the Nap Town girl we always saw in the illuminated part of the room was just a hologram. The real Thompson was the one dressed in the LOL Champion’s outfit, the one who now stepped into the projection, assuming the same position. Slowly, she raised her head and took a step forward. The hologram was now one, symbolically the two souls had been reunited.
“I’m no longer the rookie who shocked the world when she beat Eden Starling in her debut here. I’m not even the same woman who took you to the limit at Return Of The Mack, Marcus. I’ve come a long way since then and I have no intention of stopping now. I’ve been in the ring with you, I’ve seen what you’re capable of.. It’s going to be a war, I know that.”
Despite the tension still visible on her face, Trinity cracked a smile. “But this time, I’m ready.”
Moving a lock of blue hair away from her face, Trin blew a kiss to the camera before walking into the main event.
