”I went looking for trouble… And boy…I found her…”
Type O Negative’s Peter Steele serenades viewers' ears through a speaker somewhere off screen. Candles illuminate an otherwise dark room, aligned in a circle. In front of the camera, a hand holds one, carefully lighting the wicks on the last few before setting it down in front of the pair of legs crossed of someone sitting in the center of the arrangement. In this person’s lap rests the XIX Weekend Warriors Championship. In front of them, between their legs and candles, lie two photographs turned over on their faces. There’s also a little brass bowl. The shot pans up, bringing the champion, Jamie Emmerson into view. A stoic look shows on her face as she lifts her eyes from the burning lights and to the camera.
Jamie Emmerson: “It would appear as though I’ve, once again, earned the Goddess’ favor. Not once but twice, at Famous Last Words, I was shown appreciation for my offering. Not once, but twice, I tasted victory. Once against Darcy Graves…the false Reaper…and one Robert Kaiden Oakley…the Snakeman….”
A serene smile spreads across her lips as she lowers her gaze to the championship sitting in her lap.
Jamie Emmerson: “And so too did she find it suitable to reward me further for my dedication, as here I sit, the inaugural XIX Weekend Warriors Champion.”
Jamie picks the title up and rests it over one shoulder. She crosses her arms, calmly “hugging” it as she closes her eyes and sighs contentedly. When she opens them again, she cracks a knowing smirk.
Jamie Emmerson: “However…with such a reward, comes the greatest of challenges. A never ending cycle of equivalent exchange, you might say. For those two victories, the Goddess has provided me with two obstacles in front of me.”
She reaches down and picks up one of the pictures. She smiles at the image in her hand before turning it around to the camera to show…
Jamie Emmerson: “Blaze Darling. We have much in common, you and I. Young. Still learning the ropes. We’ve found our circle of trusted allies. Trust when I say I’m no stranger to what the Queens of Chaos have been doing across the industry. It’s admirable, truly. However, trust when I say that what lies ahead of you tonight will be the greatest challenge in your career, yet. I’m as familiar with defending a championship as I am with the dangers of those that like to play with fire. How long…how bright…how intense will the fire you start burn…before I snuff it out?”
She smirks again and lowers the picture off camera, smiling down as the glow of the flames flicker across her face. She lifts the other picture up and stares at it for a long moment. Jamie’s eyes lift to the camera again and she pauses for a moment before turning it to show the viewers.
Jamie Emmerson: “Switchblade. At first I was confused. I had questions as to why you appeared as you did. Then I remembered…the Goddess works in mysterious ways. She presents the greatest of challenges to her most devoted followers. I know you. I’ve stepped into the ring with your ilk before. I’m well aware of what you’re capable of when the bell is rung. I’ve defended what is mine against the Murk Squad before. I will gladly do so again. I will gladly accept your challenge if that is what you so desire. Take note of how I snuff out the flame of the Firestarter.”
She lowers the picture just as she did before with a smirk and carefully stands up inside the circle of candles, adjusting the Weekend Warriors championship on her shoulder.
Jamie Emmerson: “Then, ask yourself how deep you’re truly able to cut these days…and is it enough to slay the Witch in the Woods?”
Jamie turns, stepping out of the circle and walking off into the darkness surrounding her little circle. The camera slowly pans back down to the pictures of Blaze Darling and Switchblade which we now see are burning inside the little bowl as we fade out…
”Loving you… Loving you…”
“Love, loving you was like loving the dead…”
“It was like fucking the dead.”
